Welcome to VirtualGuitar!
Still in it's infancy and developing strongly, the VirtualGuitar (which itself was morphed from the GuitarComputer.com and now includes a 7 string version) at it's core is an algorithm to display pertinent guitar logic. The core is the underlying foundation upon which a series of modules can be built and operate like a "guitar virtual machine" or rather a guitar computer (think web based virtual guitar). In the tradition of the web's best guitar calculators, VirtualGuitar is designed to display guitar information for guitarisits of all levels. However, while calculators are good for what they do, they will never let you hear the sounds while you are learning to play guitar or learning that new chord or scale. What makes the VirtualGuitar different? Since any module can be built on top of and for the VirtualGuitar, it can be used to create a dynamic guitar learning environment with sound and animation (and video too but currently the are no videos). It can be used to draw guitar information such as scales and chords or arpeggios and soon even music notation! Best of all you as a user will be able to contribute to the development of the VirtualGuitar modules by submitting requests to the Forum as soon as we get it back online. In essence the guitar community at large will be able to participate in and benefit from building the best, free guitar tool ever!
Again this is currently still in the beginning stages so some things may be quirky at times. With that said it still the best tool out there right now (with sound)......and it's only getting better. Check it out! Get started by clicking this link to start the Virtual Guitar .
Don't forget to turn on the guitar for sound by clicking on an effect pedal or the toggle switch! The switch is for a basic clean sound and is on the FX Pedal Board and looks like this:

New Effects Pedal and Synth Module!
08/04/07 -
The VirtualGuitar now has an effect pedal board and synth module...GuitarBuilder won't get the pedal board because it doesn't really need it. I think the overdrive is the most useful effect while the others are for just playing around. Currently there is only two synths in the synth mode....a violin/cello combo and an electric bass. I will add more synths time allows. Please test it out and let me know if you have any suggestions.
Simultaneuous Notes are a reality
I had some spare time today (08/01/2007) so I re-programmed the guitar fretboard to allow the option to play multiple notes! This will allow you to hear multiple notes at the same time like if you want to hear the sound of a chord.
Let me warn you though....you need to have a good quality mouse for this to work.
Here is how to play multiple notes: Notice if you click a note and release your finger that the note dies.......well, if you want to play multiple notes, click the first note and drag your little mouse hand (the one on screen) away from where you just clicked then do the same thing on more notes to get them to ring. It takes a little practice but once you get used to it you can play some good chords or arpeggios. Keep in mind, that since this is the internet and size matters.....I am limited to only allow the notes to be the length of a whole note in 4/4 time. This means that if you want to hear multiple notes at the same time you have to be quick. Enjoy!
**Update Now you can select "Sustained Overdrive" to get an even loooonger sound when playing mulitple note....be aware though it takes a little longer to load the Sustained overdrive initially..... I just load it up and while it's loading do something else....:)
Added the Blues Scale
Added the blues scale to the computer on July 28, 2007.
I can now start adding in more exotic scales...send me your requests!
